Anyone who has served in the Armed Forces from 1975 is automatically enrolled into the Armed Forces Pension Scheme also known as the AFPS. Despite this, many veterans are missing out on what is due to them.
It's a sad fact that many veterans over the age of 60 year old do not realise they're entitled to a payout. As a result, they're litterally leaving money on the table! This is money that could make all the difference to them and aleviate some of the financial pressures of life.
Part of the problem is that the system itself is very complex. There also seems to be a lack of information for those who are owed what's due. Whether a veteran is eligible for an Armed Forces Pension depends on various factors such as the length of time served and their retirement age.
There is strong evidence to suggest that thousands of veterans are simply not claiming thier pensions as they're unaware they are entitled to one. While others don't claim as they're discouraged at the thought of filling in lots of confusing paperwork. There is also a misconception within the veteran community that the Armed Forces Pension is automatically awarded when someone becomes of age.
To claim the cash, verterans have to apply for it by contact the Ministry of Defence. They can also discuss their personal circumstances by contacting the Veterans Welfare Service. Veterans tend to be proud characters and can be sometimes be put off at the thought charity, but this is not charity. This is what's owed to you.
The Forces Pension Society has helped nearly 4000 veterans with pension queries over the last 2 years and managed to secure pension entitlements. SOme veterans have received up to as much as £12,000 as a lump sum and and additional £4000 yearly.
No other organisation is soley dedicated to providing independent and objective support about the The Armed Forces Pension Schemes. They offer solid support to veterans in recognition of their service and we encourage anyone eligible to take advantage of the scheme.
